Warning: This film is Rated R
During the holiday season, many light-hearted movies often come out to warm the hearts of many, but this year many dramas have been released as well. “Wild” released on Dec. 3, 2014, and received rave reviews and has been nominated for several awards.
“Wild” is the true story of a journey taken by Cheryl Strayed. After the death of her mother, Cheryl takes to drugs and sex to try to remove her pain. This ultimately leads to her divorce from her husband and a further downward spiral. After learning she is pregnant, Cheryl decides that it’s time to make some much needed changes in her life. To change herself, Cheryl, with no experience, starts to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, an over 2,000 long trail through the desert and the snow, by herself.
This movie is not for the squeamish, blood is shown as Cheryl often injures herself on the dangerous trail and her drug use is featured in flashbacks that she frequently has. If you want a movie that showcases strong women, this is the one for you to see, Reese Witherspoon does an amazing job portraying Cheryl as the inspirational woman she is. This movie, while it may be hard to watch at times, is a definite must watch for this season.
