Sexism in school

Brace yourselves, warm weather is coming. Shorts have already appeared around the school even though there is still snow on the ground in some places. Boys wear shorts year round (which is a mystery unto itself) and girls break out their daisy dukes as soon as the temperature is above freezing.

Women’s clothing is designed to be sexualized and revealing, whereas Men’s clothing is designed for comfort and functionality. As female students, we do not have much control over what we can wear to school and what will be deemed ‘appropriate’. We wear what we can, but when the sun starts to shine the options for women’s clothing seem to use the least amount of fabric as possible.

Girls can wear jeans and leggings to avoid this short-shorts dilemma, but sometimes it’s just too hot to wear either. When girls break out the shorter clothing, the problems begin. The dress code is almost intolerable towards clothes for summer and are considered a ‘distraction’ to other students’ learning experience.

Really? Oh my, is a knee too revealing for you? Get a grip.
